A few years ago I was putting a lot of effort into selling on eBay. Unfortunately, I wasn't earning much for my hard work. I looked into selling on Amazon.com.
I spent a lot of time figuring out the basics of selling on Amazon. It was really frustrating, every question slowed me down as I tried to list my items. Amazon's Help section seemed like a foreign language. I thought to myself, "I would pay someone to end this frustrating process!"
That's when it hit me...

People want simple language -
When the Clinton administration decided to adopt a plain-language rule in government writing in 1998, it found letters like this one from the Veterans Benefit Administration:
"If evidence is not received before June 28, 1998, which is one year form the date of our first letter, benefits, if entitlement is established, cannot be paid before the date of receipt of the evidence."
In its place, the revised letter read:
"We’ll have to turn down your claim if we don’t get your documents report by June 28."
Here is another example:
The first winner of the No Gobbledygook Award, given by Vice President Al Gore in 1998, went to Marthe Kent for changing the regulation.
Before:
"This paragraph applies to all operations involving the immersion of materials in liquids, or in the vapors of such liquids, for the purpose of cleaning or altering the surface or adding to or imparting a finish thereto or changing the character of the materials, and their subsequent removal form the liquid or vapor, draining, and drying. These operations include washing, electroplating, anodizing, pickling, quenching, dyeing, dipping, tanning, dressing, bleaching, degreasing, alkaline cleaning, stripping, rinsing, digesting, and other similar operations."
After:
" When does this rule apply?
- This rule applies to operations using a dip tank containing any liquid other than water:
- To clean an object
- To coat an object
- To alter the surface of an object, or
- To change the character of an object
- This rule also applies to drying or draining and object after dripping."
